  REGULATIONS
ECO-CINEMA, is an International Film Festival devoted to environmental cinema, which was first organized in September 2001 on the island of Zakynthos, seat of the first National Marine Park in Greece.

The festival included many awarded international entries and has been highly acclaimed by both the press and the public.

One of the Festival's immediate aims is creating a web of professionals that are associated in film production regarding the festival's context, so that operation of a commercial department is possible in the near future.

Last year's experience has proved that this is possible as well as necessary, since some film sales were conducted by the film's representatives from various countries that took part in the festival.

ECOCINEMA invites documentaries, shorts and features with environmental and ecology themes, encouraging conservation issues and issued related with the natural, the human and the built environment in which we live. Prizes are awarded to the films for their innovative approach in conservation issues for their daring proposal in subject matter and their artistic qualities overall.

We believe that as this festival enters its third year, it can become a yearly cultural event with multiple receivers: the general public, cinematographers, the environmental community, scientists, media, distributors.

   POST Ecocinema 2003 impressions

You really managed to upscale the event this year - that fantastic open-air cinema was really the coup de grace. The last evening we became mesmerised by the moonlight concert and time ran away.
Raphael Abraham, MovingPictures

Merci pour le festival et merci pour la programation, en effet, le peu de temps que j'ai pu passer sur le festival m'a permit de voir une très belle sélection de films.
Jean DE TREGOMAIN, producer France

Congratulations on a excellent festival. You and your team came through exceptionally well. I am sure that you've received a lot of positive feedback from the participants. I know we enjoyed the festival thoroughly and some of the films had particularly interesting themes to present.
Zoe Delibasis, Canadian Embassy

I would like to thank you for the great experience I had at Ecocinema last week. It was inspiring on both levels, personal and professional.
Mohamad Hashem, Founder & Manager Beirut Documentary Film Festival

I want to thank you really for the great work you did, you are doing and you surely will do for independent culture. Ecocinema seemed to me as a perfect blend of deeply interesting cultural production and warm hospitality in a beautiful place.
Luca Pastore, director Italy

The selection of films was very strong, and all of the films that I managed to see were excellent. my trip was totally worthwhile. These things would just add to a very special and unique festival. I made some good friends.
Marianne Kaplan, director Canada

I found the festival and its staff extremely inspiring, a very good atmosphere for fruitful discussions and getting to know one another. Also, you were a very charming and dedicated host, with precise knowledge about almost every single film in the festival. Quite impressive. What a great location you had found in that wonderful outdoor theatre. Thanks again, continue the good work and good luck to you and the festival.
Bregtje vaan Haak, director The Netherlands

The films you chose were really good ones. It testifies your good sense and esthetic taste. Usually, the thematic festivals (ecology, ethnology, mountains, arts...) have the films which use to be more TV programs than the films. Of course, you had too about 1/3 of films made such way, with their main purpose to explain the things and to have them shown in clear and obvious way, without anything hidden, being more with informative and explicative than with search for beauty. But you had in the same time the other films, whose authors prefer to think the reality, to look for an inner sense of all around us, to offer some kinesthetic achievements, and they were majority. This choice is something we have to thank you for!
I visit several festivals within the year and I found your festival very attractive for the atmosphere which has been made both by hosts and by the guests - a familiar an friendly one, which is the best in my view. Congratulations again and best wishes for your work!
Vladimir Perovic, director Serbia Montenegro

It was an interesting experience and it allowed me to meet with many people, get new and fresh ideas and starting up new projects.
Hjalmar Dahm, scriptwriter Sweden

Thank you so much for everything. It was a great festival, great company, great hospitality. I enjoyed every moment of it and regret that it had to end.
Nigol Bezjian, director Lebanon

  POST Ecocinema 2002 impressions

We enjoyed being there on that magical island making new friends and getting to know collegues from all over the world. We will certainly come back. A festival like Ecocinema is of the utmost importance to keep in touch with what's really happening with our planet. Hopefully Ecocinema will grow and keep reaching out to the world.
Sherman De Jesus director, The Netherlands

I thoroughly enjoyed the film festival in Zakynthos, congratulations on putting it together. Thank you again for having me in Zakynthos, I enjoyed the festival and my audience very much. And, needless to say, the island is just stunning. Thanks and hope to be in touch.
Birgit Buhleier, National Geographic Television USA

I loved being there very, very much. It was a great pleasure.
Gert de Graaff director, The Netherlands

Silvano Agosti, producer Italy

It was the smallest but nicest film festival I ever was. I met some very inspiring people. We liked it very much.
Jan van der Berg, director the Netherlands

Ét was a great pleasure to be at your festival and I look forward to working together with you. You did a great job!
Claas Danielseen, Discovery Channel Germany

The size of the festival makes possible to meet other filmakers and people on the ground level without any trying to be anything more than people use to be !!!!! I love that. No too much program, no too many things going on during at the same time. So you can avoid the feeling of an ordinary art-festival, where people trie to be more special and extraordinary than they use to be. The concept from pure nature documentaries to more conceptual films was very good - it made real discussion. As a professional I have to say the organisation could not be better. I think it is very important to speak about environment on all levels.
Harri Larjosto, director Finland

It is a very homely place, and I am glad I had the chance to get to know it . I can't think of anything that makes me so happy as the idea of being there and share all we feel and have to say on behalf of man and his relationship with the environment. It was a unique and privileged opportunity for me to have the chance to share this gathering among people who are genuinely worried about our unavoidable need to care for environmental values and get involved in nature protection. I am extremely happy and grateful for the festival's attitude
and generosity.
